Mrs. Ruby Kirkland Thomas Corbitt, 90, died suddenly Friday afternoon (February 5, 2010) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities.
She was a native of Pearson, GA but had lived most of her life in Ware County including Manor and later Waycross. She had been a resident of Baptist Village for the past nine years. She was the daughter of the late Benagie Kirkland and Wealthy Roberts Kirkland Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Buck Thomas, Harvey Thomas and Newt Corbitt; sisters, Kay Steverson, Lucille Knight, and Mayolene Lee, and a brother, Norman Kirkland.
She was a homemaker and had worked in the housekeeping and laundry departments of Baptist Village for twenty years. She was a member of Kettle Creek Southern Congregational Methodist Church but had formerly been a member of Booth Congregational Methodist Church (now Victory Methodist Church) of Manor for more than 50 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Storey of Waycross; a son, William Arlon Thomas (wife Sarah) of Richmond Hill; a sister, Vina Smith Howell of Blackshear; grandchildren, Rev. William Steve Thomas (wife Jeannie) of Rincon, Cathy Bazemore (husband Frank) of Taylor, SC, Keenan Sears (wife Jenny) of Sumter, SC; step-grandchildren, Liz W. Tomlinson (husband Pat), Jay Williams, and Chris F. Williams (wife Gaye) all of Richmond Hill;twenty great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday (February 9, 2010) at Music Funeral Home followed by a funeral service from 7:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday (February 9, 2010) at Music Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery.
